Admiral Steve Abbot (Ret.)

Admiral Abbot has been involved in the defense and security of the United States for over 38 years. He is the former Acting Homeland Security Advisor to the President, having served as the Deputy Homeland Security Advisor under Governor Tom Ridge. Prior to his homeland security duties Admiral Abbot held senior level command positions within the U.S. Navy including Deputy Commander in Chief, U.S. European Command where he oversaw the daily activities of a Unified Command with an area of responsibility encompassing 89 countries and more than 13 million square miles. Admiral Abbot is now President & CEO of the Navy Marine Corps Relief Society, a private, non-profit aid society dedicated to assisting sailors, marines and their families. He graduated from the United States Naval Academy and studied at Oxford University as a Rhodes Scholar.

David I. Beatson

David I. Beatson is president and chief executive officer of North America for Panalpina Inc., a $5 billion global transportation and logistics supplier based in Basel, Switzerland. Prior to joining Panalpina in 2003, he served as chairman, president and chief executive officer of Circle International Group, Inc., a global transportation and logistics company and as president and chief executive officer of U.S.-based air-freight forwarder Emery Worldwide. He has previously held senior level positions with American Airlines and CF Airfreight. Mr. Beatson graduated from Ohio State University with a bachelor's degree in marketing and finance. He earned a master's degree in business administration from the University of Cincinnati.

Lord Condon

Lord Condon was a career police officer for 32 years and for the last 7 was Britain's most Senior Police Officer as Commissioner of the Police in London. During his service, he was awarded the Queen's Police Medal for distinguished service and was Knighted by Her Majesty the Queen. He retired from policing at the age of 52 and for the last 7 years, he has developed a portfolio of interests including the administration of international sport, international consultancy work and directorships. His main commercial interest is a Directorship of Group4 Securicor which has over 350,000 employees in over 100 countries. The Wackenhut Corporation is one of their subsidiary companies in the US. He is an Honorary Fellow at St Peter's College Oxford and in 2001 he was made a Life Peer and as a politically independent member of the legislative upper house of Parliament he is involved in legislation about terrorism, police reform, criminal justice and security issues and is regularly asked to comment on security issues as an acknowledged expert in the international media. He represents Kent and Her Majesty the Queen as Deputy Lord Lieutenant of the County.

Mei Han

Mei Han is a researcher at NEC Laboratories America who was deeply involved in developing the original video algorithms at the core of Vidient's innovative surveillance products. She has authored many conference and journal papers over the past three years on video analysis, visual tracking, object detection, geometric modeling, image processing and computer vision. She continues to work in these areas. Mei Han holds Doctorates in Robotics and Computer Science from Carnegie Mellon University and Tsinghua University.

Todd Hauptli

Todd Hauptli is Senior Executive Vice President of the American Association of Airport Executives (AAAE). He is responsible for managing the organization's interactions with the Congress and Executive Branch agencies. Recognized as a leading transportation advocate in Washington DC, he has helped guide more than $50 billion in infrastructure investments to airports and has been involved in transportation policy for nearly two decades. Prior to joining AAAE Todd worked at the US Department of Transportation; on the White House staff of President Ronald Reagan; at the US Department of Commerce; and on Capitol Hill. He graduated with high honors from the University of California at Santa Barbara.

Dr. Takeo Kanade

Dr. Kanade is an internationally acclaimed research scientist in the areas of computer vision, visual and multi-media technology, and robotics. He is the U. A. and Helen Whitaker University Professor of Computer Science and Robotics at Carnegie Mellon University and has written more than 250 technical papers and reports in these areas, and holds more than 20 patents. Dr. Kanade emphasizes the formulation of sound theories which use the physical, geometrical, and semantic properties involved in perceptual and control processes in order to create intelligent machines, and the demonstration of working systems based on these theories. He has received numerous awards and recognition for his work, including election to National Academy of Engineering, C&C Award, and Fellow in IEEE, ACM and AAAI. He has also served on prestigious advisory committees including the Aeronautics and Space Engineering Board (ASEB) of the National Research Council, NASA's Advanced Technology Advisory Committee, and the PITAC Panel for Transforming Healthcare Panel. Dr. Kanade received his Doctoral degree in Electrical Engineering from Kyoto University, Japan, in 1974. He joined Carnegie Mellon University in 1980, where he was the Director of the Robotics Institute from 1992 to 2001.

Dr. Yann LeCun

Dr. LeCun is Professor of Computer Science at the Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences at New York University. He has published over 90 technical papers and book chapters on machine learning, computer vision, pattern recognition, handwriting recognition, neural networks, image compression, document understanding, VLSI design, and information theory. Prior to joining NYU, he held the positions of research staff member at Bell Laboratories, department head at AT&T Labs-Research, and Fellow of the NEC Research Institute. Technologies developed by Dr. LeCun and his colleagues are widely used for such applications as automated processing of bank checks, and on-line digital libraries.

Ken has been interim CEO at Vidient, Astoria Software, and Crosslogix. As President of Resonate, Inc., led the company from start-up to very successful public offering in 2001. Ken's experience includes senior management roles in a number of public companies, including Lotus and General Electric. Ken holds a M.Sc. in Computer Science from Rutgers University and a B.E.E. from City College of New York.

Michael Sheehan
Former Commissioner of Counterterrorism
New York City Police Department

Michael Sheehan is best known for his work in the fields of counterterrorism at the local, national and international levels. Currently at the Center on Law and Security at the NYU School of Law, after recently leaving his post as Deputy Commissioner of Counterterrorism for the New York City Police Department. Prior to his position at the NYPD, he worked at the UN as an appointee of Kofi Annan in the position of Assistant Secretary General in the Department of Peacekeeping Operations, where he was responsible for oversight of military and police peacekeeping forces around the world. Commissioner Sheehan's counterterrorism record extends back to the 1990's when, following the embassy bombings in East Africa, he became the Department of State's Ambassador at Large for Counterterrorism. Upon retiring from the Army as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1997, Sheehan was appointed a Deputy Assistant Secretary of State in the Bureau of International Organizations, where he focused on international policing in Bosnia and Kosovo. He has served under three National Security Advisors and two Presidents (George H.W. Bush and Bill Clinton). He holds a B.A. from West Point, an M.A. from Georgetown's School of Foreign Service and an M.A. from the US Army Command/General Staff College.

Admiral David Stone

Throughout his professional career, Admiral David Stone has been known to take on the toughest assignments and achieve impressive results. As Assistant Secretary of Homeland Security for the Transportation Security Administration from 2003 to his departure in June 2005 he led the effort to secure the US transportation system from terrorist attacks while promoting growth and increased access. He is an acknowledged leader in transportation security having also served from 2002 to 2003 as the TSA's first Federal Security Director at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). Admiral Stone is a 28 year career naval officer who served with great distinction in a variety of roles including as Commander of NATO's Standing Naval Force in the Mediterranean during operations in support of the Kosovo conflict until his retirement from active duty in April 2002. He is a graduate of the United States Naval Academy and holds post-graduate degrees from several institutions including the Naval War College.

Dr. Hai Tao

Dr. Hai Tao is an Assistant Professor of Computer Engineering with research interests in image and video processing, computer vision, and human | computer interaction. He was previously a Member of the Technical Staff at Sarnoff Corporation and a Research Assistant at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where he also completed his Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering. Dr. Hai Tao also holds Masters and Bachelor degrees in Electrical and Computer Engineering and Automation from Mississippi State University and Tsinghua University. He has written extensively on 2D motion analysis and tracking, image processing, facial modeling, synthesis and analysis, and data compression.

Mr. Louis A. Turpen

Mr. Turpen has a distinguished career in international aviation, serving for over two decades as chief executive officer of major international airports. At San Francisco International Airport, he successfully completed reconstruction of the terminal complex, as well as the planning, designing, financing, and initial construction of a new 2 million square-foot International Terminal. As CEO of the Lester B. Pearson International Airport in Toronto, he completed a redevelopment initiative that included two new runways and replacement of most of the terminal, cargo, and maintenance facilities. During his career, he has been the innovator of several aviation programs, including the first airport counterterrorism plan in 1985 and the first noise mitigation plan in 1987. He served as a member of the Airports Council International World Governing Board-representing more than 1,400 airports in 167 countries-from 1999-2004. Elected as a Fellow of the Royal Aeronautical Society in Great Britain in 1991 and in 1996, Turpen served on the Board of Directors of the Airports Council International Pacific Region Airports from 1982 until 1995 and as its president in 1983, 1989, and 1993. He was honored by the City of San Francisco Airports Commission in the dedication of the Louis A. Turpen Aviation Museum at San Francisco International Airport. He is president of the San Francisco Aeronautical Society, which is dedicated to preserving the history of commercial aviation in the Pacific.
